New products must be cost-effective to produce to sell well. Finding a manufacturer is not usually a problem, but finding the right cost-effective manufacturer can be a challenge.

Early on in development it is critical to qualify how an invention will be mass produced and at what cost. If you're in business, the head of your manufacturing or procurement department can qualify the process and the cost fairly easily. If you are an independent inventor you'll need to do some research. You can also consult counselors at your local SBDC.

Simple concepts and improvements on existing products are usually easier to develop than more complicated, sophisticated ones. If your invention is relatively simple, it should be easier to prototype, develop, and find partners.

If your invention is complex like machinery or an electronic device, you'll need a team of experts to assist. Development partnerships with existing suppliers are common. You'll want to use their expertise and money to develop the concept.

Finding and interviewing manufacturers
There are many ways to find manufacturers. Two good ones are by talking to experts you already know and visiting tradeshows in the field of your invention. When interviewing potential partners, you'll want to qualify several points, the three most important are quality, service and price.

You'll also want to find out how willing they will be to invest their time and money in your project, either as a favored supplier or as a licensee.

How much do manufacturers charge?
You are only expected to pay for product if you are an existing business or going into business. If you are licensing or partnering your invention with an existing supplier to the trade, there is no reason to charge you. Eventually your licensee will be purchasing from the manufacturer.

Any start-up charges should be paid by the manufacturer itself, or the marketing partner or licensee. Even established businesses negotiate for extended payment terms and warehousing assistance to defray start-up costs. So should you.

Experienced inventors know you can protect your ideas free, design and prototype your inventions for a few dollars, file patent applications for $100, and build your own profitable marketing relationships. In contrast, many inexperienced inventors spend countless millions on invention promotion companies for an array of worthless marketing reports, unqualified product design and prototyping, weak patents and bogus "exposure to industry". It's a $90 million a year scam.

But just like savvy inventors, you can have partners pay you instead! You'll learn how right here on this web site. Actually, you've already started, since now you know what not to do.

Peruse these web pages and you'll save thousands of dollars and years of development time. We're going to show you the systems and methods used by expert innovators. You will also be able to get qualified advice from some of the nation's leading experts in innovation. Your cost? Zero. Keep reading.
