Look, if your invention is not manufactured using the right process, you will most likely put yourself right out of the high volume market.
An unfortunate story...
About 8 years ago an inventor came to us with his "great idea" in which he had already received his patent. He knew we had connections at McDonalds and the high volume fast food industry. He also knew we had expert knowledge of film products, like grocery sacks and trash bags. So he was excited.
Frankly his invention was a good idea. It was a nested trash bag that would save a lot of employee labor when emptying the trash.
But here's the problem: He didn't consider the manufacturing processes used to make plastic trash bags. According to his granted patent the only way to make the nested bags was by hand!
Now, there was no way in the world we would have offered to take his invention to McDonalds or any other user. There is no way we could justify asking McDonalds to increase its annual trash bag purchases from about $20 million to over $140 million! Just to save a little on labor.
Had he investigated manufacturing processes and previously issued patents on nested bags, he would not have wasted over $10,000 to patent a worthless concept.
What might have been an even more unfortunate outcome would have been to embark on the project with an invention company. That could have possibly cost the inventor $30,000 or more. Look out.
From Patent to Profit shows you how to investigate manufacturing processes. In fact, it shouldn't cost you one cent. We can even arrange free, expert counseling in one of 1000 SBDC offices nationwide.
Save the $10,000 to $20,000...and after you've qualified marketability and the right manufacturing process for your invention...we'll show you how to get it presented to businesses like McDonalds with nothing more than a phone call.
How successful inventors zero-in on the right process It isn't hard, it only takes some time. Start by networking with those who know manufacturing processes and then...(more) |
