The ABC Kids Expo, one of the Largest Trade Show's in North America, announced the Lock-n-Block(TM) Sliding Door Gate as one of the finalists out of 130 products submitted.
The interesting part of this was that I, Tharon Trujillo, a 12-year-old inventor of the Lock-n-Block(TM) was the youngest winners ever to win the Juvenile Product Manufacturers Assocations (JPMA) innovation award (Casinger, L, 2008). It was strange to stand up in front of the large companies like 4Moms, and Medela to accept the award because I knew they had submitted their products as well. I was very happy and proud that my invention won because I knew that many children will be saved because the Lock-n-Block(TM).
The Lock-n-Block(TM) Sliding Door Gate is useful for keeping pets and toddlers inside the house, without the worry of them breaking through the screen portion of the sliding glass door. I came up with this idea after my 7-month-old sister pushed out the sliding door screen, and I turned to my father and said that there needs to be a gate for the sliding door. My father and I immediately went to work in order to create a solution to this problem.
In order to use the Lock N Block(TM) Sliding Door Gate, you simply place the gate on the existing sliding door track, and clamp it to the functional sliding door. Once fitted and locked into place with the door stop, the gate will not move, and will withstand the weight of a pet or a toddler.
My parents were able to find a home for the Lock-n-Block(TM) and it is now licensed with Cardinal Gates, a leader in quality built safety gates. Their motto is, "If it's a Cardinal, It's the best!"
The Lock-n-BlockTM will be in stores starting the beginning of the year!
