Provisional Patent Applications
This is a simplified version of the permanent patent application. They are easier to write and file since the legal claims are not required.
Provisional applications give one year of patent pending status before you have to file the permanent application. This is a great way to start test marketing your invention and to qualify its attributes.
Should changes and improvements be necessary that aren't covered in a first provisional patent application, all you have to do is file a new one on the new subject matter. If you've completely designed around the inventive subject matter in the first application, then you're only out $100 instead of thousands a permanent patent application may cost.
If you follow the FROM PATENT TO PROFIT system, you may have your marketing partners pay the cost of the permanent patent application.
